FW Social is the community arm of Falkirk Wheelers which aims to keep people active, to contribute to
projects, create self sustaining groups and to work with other organisations and schools.
Since we started in 2013 we have been involved with a number of organisations including Brownies, Scouts, Young Carers and many schools around and beyond Forth Valley.
Our most recent community involvement was from April to August 2022 with Our Place Camelon and Tamfourhill, Police Scotland, The Conservation Volunteers, local football coaches and Falkirk Rugby Club to use sport to tackle antisocial behaviour. Over the period six of our members were involved and a total of 324 young people took part over 14 weeks: 155 boys 48% & 169 girls 52%. The highest attendance at a session was 48 and the lowest was 9.
Update: Due to the success of the Twilight Sports Our Place Camelon and Tamfourhill have started winter sessions in the local Hub and have asked us along. Since the start of November there have been six sessions with a total of 108 young people attending.
Our social skates are held in community halls and sports centres thoughout the area. These are affordable family friendly skating sessions for all ages and abilities to some tunes. We aim to bring skating to as much of our local area as we can including rural areas around "The Braes" and some of the most deprived areas according to the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD).
We always welcome donations of any unwanted skates and pads that you've replaced or the wee ones have grown out of. By donating to us you can guarantee that you old equipment will be well used and allow us to get even more people active by introducing them to skating. Feel free to get in touch or drop off any unwanted equipment at one of our events, currently held at Airth, Avonbridge, Bo'Ness, Camelon. and Denny. Plus if you like what we do and would like to make a £5 donation then click here to make a secure online payment. All donations will go towards buying more equipment for our community and school sessions.
